As an organization dedicated to gender equality, human rights, and international peace and security, WIIS stands in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement and its peaceful campaign for justice, equality and change. At WIIS, we believe that security starts at home and is fundamentally about human security – the safety and security of every individual and every group in society. The foundation of a secure, peaceful and just society must be equal standing, equal treatment, equal protection and equal opportunity under the law.
The Black Lives Matter movement calls upon political leaders and society as a whole to end the racism, discrimination and inequalities that persist and abound in the United States in the 21st century. These systemic, structural, and institutional inequalities have been amplified by the coronavirus pandemic and the crushing economic recession. The crisis is both urgent and chronic.
WIIS is an organization – and a community – dedicated to the principles of human equality and universal human rights. We know that advancing these goals will require intense, immediate actions as well as sustained, long-term commitments to systemic change. We support the Black Lives Matter movement in its campaign for justice and real change.
